A field experiment was carried out at the Professor Purnendu Gain Field Laboratory, Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna, during the period from August 2018 to December 2018 to determine the effect of phosphorus doses with added nitrogen on BR23 rice in Khulna District. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with three replications, having nitrogen fertilizer in the main plot and phosphorus fertilizer in the sub-plot. There were two nitrogen levels, viz., N₀ = no nitrogen and N₁ = 93 kg N ha⁻¹, and four phosphorus levels, viz., P₀ = no phosphorus, P₁ = 8 kg P ha⁻¹, P₂ = 16 kg P ha⁻¹, and P₃ = 24 kg P ha⁻¹. Experimental data on growth characters, yield-contributing characters, and yield parameters were collected and analyzed statistically. At harvest, the tallest plants (136.75 cm), maximum tillers hill⁻¹ (11.83), total dry matter hill⁻¹ (76.92 g), effective tillers hill⁻¹ (12.92), filled grains panicle⁻¹ (125.83), 1000-grain weight (41.08 g), grain yield (5.56 t ha⁻¹), straw yield (6.67 t ha⁻¹), and harvest index (50.86%) were obtained from the N₁ (93 kg N ha⁻¹) treatment. The P₃ (24 kg P ha⁻¹) treatment showed similar superiority in most growth and yield-contributing characters. However, the P₂ (16 kg P ha⁻¹) treatment produced the maximum grain yield, straw yield, and harvest index. The interaction effect of the N₁P₃ treatment combination (93 kg N ha⁻¹ + 24 kg P ha⁻¹) resulted in the highest grain yield, straw yield, and biological yield. The N₁ treatment (93 kg N ha⁻¹), P₃ treatment (24 kg P ha⁻¹), and N₁P₃ treatment combination (93 kg N ha⁻¹ + 24 kg P ha⁻¹) showed effective performance in most of the measured parameters.
