dc.description.abstractA field experiment was conducted at the Field Laboratory of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna, during aman season, 2006 to study the effect of different doses of phosphorus on the growth and yield of BRRI dhan41. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. There were seven levels of phosphorus (T₁= 0 kg P/ha, T₂= 39 kg P/ha, T₃= 51 kg P/ha, T₄=77 kg P/ha, T₅= 19.5+19.5 kg P/ha, T₆=25.5+ 25.5 kg P/ha, T₇= 38.5+ 38.5 kg P/ha) which constitute the treatment. Phosphorus doses under treatments T₂, T₃ and T₄ were applied as single basal while treatments T₅, T₆ and T₇ were applied in two equal splits. Data on growth, yield and yield attributes were collected. The experimental result revealed that most of the growth and yield parameters were significantly affected by phosphorus doses. The highest grain yield (3.77 t/ha) was recorded in T₃ (51 kg P/ha) treatment and the lowest yield (1.99 t/ha) was recorded in T₁ (0 kg P/ha). Reduction in grain yield was observed at higher dose of phosphorus. Application of phosphorus fertilizer in split had no effect compared to their single basal application. Application of 51 kg P/ha as single basal found to be the most suitable dose for better growth and higher yield of T. aman rice cv. BRRI dhan41.
