Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Farmers Regarding Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus of Okra at Dumuria Upazila in Khulna District

Abstract

Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV) of Okra causes major crop yield losses and affect production of Okra. The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practice of the farmers regarding YVMV of Okra. Data were collected from randomly selected 60 okra farmers through face-to-face interview from Dumuria upazila in Khulna district using an interview schedule during 21-25 June, 2022. About three fourth (73.3%) of the respondents had medium knowledge while the rest (27.3%) of them had low knowledge on YVMV of Okra. The majority (60%) of the respondents had favorable attitude towards the YVMV of Okra while 21.7% of them had highly favorable attitude and 18.3% had neutral attitude. About half (53.3%) of the respondents had adopted medium practices while rest (47.7%) of the respondents had adopted high practices related for management of the YVMV of Okra. Among 10 selected characteristics of the respondents only farming experience showed a positive significant (0.321*, 0.337*, 0.319*) relationship with their knowledge, attitude and practices. Education of the respondents showed a positive significant (0.330*, 0.334*) relationship with both knowledge and attitude while organizational participation and training showed a positive significant (0.0268*, 0.265*) relationship with practices only. However, annual income and extension media contact showed a negative significant -0.409*) relationship with their practices. Age, experience in okra farming, family size, and farm size showed non-significant relationship with the knowledge, attitude and practices.
