Abstract
The study was carried out to identify the existence of nitrofurans, chloramphenicol and tetracycline at different stages of shrimp muscle by using ELISA method. Antibiotic tested data of collected samples revealed that nitrofuran and chloramphenicol antibiotics were found in Shrimp muscle but for maximum samples the concentration were lesser in quantities. Only SEM was found above the cut off level in shrimp PL and PL after one week rearing in one farm of Khulna district and the concentration of SEM were 0.723 ppb and 0.920 ppb for shrimp PL and PL after one week rearing respectively. Cut off level for SEM is 0.576 ppb thus indicates of its presence above acceptable limit in those two samples. Tetracycline was not detected in shrimp muscle. Though SEM was found in PL and PL after one week in one farm of Khulna, the next stages (after one month & harvesting before one week) did not encompass harmful level of the residues. Other tested antibiotic residues comprised of AOZ, AMOZ, AHD and CAP were found below the cut off level. Present study did not reveal any big concern regarding presence of antibiotic residue in shrimp muscle however, continuous monitoring is needed to reduce/prevent contamination of banned antibiotics in shrimp muscle.
