| dc.description.abstract | In order to study the effect of different combinations of organic substrates on plant growth and yield of potato var. Diamant in container, an experiment was conducted as one factor Completely Randomized Design with 5 replications in the Addhapak Purnendu Gein Field Laboratory of Agrotechnology Discipline of Khulna University from December 2013 to April 2014. Water hyacinth and vermicompost were combined with soil in different ratios and form eleven treatments including control. The treatments were T0 (100% soil), T1 (100% water hyacinth compost), T2 (50% soil with 50% water hyacinth compost), T3 (50% soil with 50% vermicompost), T4 (50% water hyacinth compost and 50% vermicompost), T5 (75% soil with 25% water hyacinth compost), T6 (75% soil and 25% vermicompost), T7 (75% water hyacinth compost and 25% vermicompost), T8 (75% vermicompost and 25% water hyacinth compost), T9 (25% soil with 50% water hyacinth compost and 25% vermicompost) and T10 (50% soil with 25% water hyacinth compost and 25% vermicompost). It was revealed that organic substrates had significant effect on the growth and yield performance of potato plant compared to the control treatment. The treatment T8 (75% vermicompost and 25% water hyacinth compost) produced maximum number of tuber and T7 (75% water hyacinth compost and 25% vermicompost) gave the highest tuber length, breadth and weight of tuber per container and T7 also provided maximum gross return among the all treatments. But maximum net income and benefit cost ratio (BCR) were found in T1 (100% water hyacinth compost) while negetive result of BCR was recorded from remaining treatments except T1, T2 and T8. This difference was found from variation of production cost. Finally it can be summarized that 100% water hyacinth compost was economical and beneficial for production of potato in container. | |
