A study was carried out with the aim to determine the extent of adoption of selected recommended agronomic practices by the boro rice growers and also to explore the relationship between selected characteristics of the farmers with their adoption of selected recommended agronomic practices of boro rice cultivation. Data for the study were collected by personal interview using an interview schedule from 85 randomly selected farmers of 4 villages of Jalma union under Khulna district, during May to June, 2009. Three-fifths (61%) of the respondents belonged to high adoption category while about two-fifths (39%) of the respondents were under medium adoption of selected recommended agronomic practices of boro rice cultivation. All of the respondents strictly adopted/followed the laddering while none of them followed recommended time for 3rd installment of urea application. The other highly adopted / strictly followed agronomic practices were land preparation, number of seedling per hill, intercultural operation (weeding),fertilizer (urea) application 2nd time, harvesting time and threshing. On the other hand seed bed preparation, variety, seed rate, transplanting, spacing and sowing date were the moderately adopted practices. The partially adopted practices were seed bed size, fertilizer application, source of seed, irrigation, pest control and fertilizer (urea) application at 3rd times. Out of eleven selected characteristics of the boro rice grower’s only age, farming experience and farm size showed a positive significant relationship with their adoption of selected recommended agronomic practices of boro rice cultivation.
