| dc.description.abstract | The scientific basis for the statement that the plants and their active compounds play a promising role in the prevention of the diseases is continuously advancing. The present review is aimed at compiling data on promising medicinal plants of Bangladesh that have been tested in hepatotoxicity models using the modern scientific system along with their chemical constituents having hepatoprotective potential. Six plants namely Alocasia indica (Mankachu), Andrographis paniculata (Kalmegh), Eclipta alba (Bhringraj / Kalokesh), Elephantopus scaber (Gojialata), Ipomoea aquatic (Kolmi Shak) and Wedelia chinensis (Keshraj) have been enlisted with highest hepatoprotective activity reported in published literature. Terpenoids, alkaloids, phytosterols, phenolic acids and flavonoids are the major chemical classes of the compounds with hepatoprotective activity that have been reported from those plants. Thus, this review summarizes the contemporary research on Bangladeshi medicinal plants focusing on hepatoprotective activity and form a platform for future endevour in the said direction. | |
