A field experiment was conducted at the Field Laboratory of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna, during aus season, 2007 to study the impact of weeding regime on the performance of aus rice. A factorial randomized complete block design with three replications was followed for this experiment. The experimental treatment included four weeding regime viz., no weeding, one hand weeding at 35 days after sowing (DAS), two hand weedings at 20 and 35 DAS and three hand weedings at 20, 35 and 50 DAS and three rice varieties viz., BRRI dhan28, Bera Ratna and Kajol Lata. Eleven weed species belonging to five families infested the experimental plots; Cyperus esculentus and Imperata cylindrica were the most dominant. The effect of weeding regime on weed density (except at 20 DAS) and weed dry weight showed significant difference. The plant height increased gradually with increasing weeding regime. The results indicated that three hand weedings at 20, 35 and 50 DAS produced the highest number of effective tillers hill⁻¹, number of filled grains panicle⁻¹, 1000-grain weight and grain yield. The results also showed that grain yield was higher in Bera Ratna than that of other two varieties.
