Abstract
This project thesis deals with the study of current status of water quality of the three rivers Vhairab, Rupsba and Possur in the South-west costal reign of Bangladesh. This describes the condition of pll, Temperature, DO (Dissolved Oxygen) IDS (Total Dissolved Solid), EC (Electrical Conductivity), Salinity, Chloride, BOD (Bio-chemical Oxygen Demand), and Hardness. Water temperature was found to fluctuate from 25°C to 30°C. The highest and lowest pH values of the river Vhairab, Rupsha and Possur were 7.2 to 8.9, 7.40 to 9.6 and 7.34 to 9.5 respectively. IDS value of the river Possur, Rupsha
and Vhairab were in the range of 0.070 to 0.089 gm/L, 0.078 to 0.099 mg/L and 0.074 to 0.089 gm/L respectively. The Electrical Conductivity ofVhairab river was more than the other two rivers and it attained 96 ms/cm and lowest EC was in the Possur river and that was 31 ms/cm. Average salinity in the Vhairab, Rupsba and Possur river was 21 ppm, 18 ppm and 19ppm respectively. Average alkalinity was found 250mg/L, 200mg/L and 250 mg/L in the river Vhairab, Rupsha and Possur respectively. Average bio-chemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) in the river Vhairab, Rupsha and Possur was 2.25 mg/L, 3.75 mg/L and 3.75 mg/L respectively. Average Dissolved Oxygen (DO) was found in these three rivers 4.75 mg/L, 5.87 mg/L and 5.625 mg/L respectively. Hardness of these rivers did not fluctuate significantly. The highest and lowest hardness of these three rivers were 5.99 mg/L and 4.2 mg/L respectively. All the physico-chemical parameters were well below the permitted levels recommended for aquatic organism.
