Abstract

The main purpose of the study was to identify the prospects of Dyke Vegetable Production (DVP) in gher and to determine the problem confrontation ofDVP. Data were collected from randomly selected 84 respondents in five selected villages named Kahalpur at Atjuri union, Joydihi, Munijela and Shawnaspur at Kodalia union and Charkulia at Kulia union of Mollarhat upazila unda- Bagerhat district through interview method by the researcher herself using an interview schedule during the period from February to April 2018. Data were collected on Dyke area, Annual yield and income of DVP, Irrigation facilitation, family nutrition, food security, and Women involvement in D VP to determine the prospects of D VP on ghers. Besides, data were collected on 13 selected characteristics of the D VP and the problems confronted by them. A number of 30 problems were identified as confronted by Dyke vegetables gowers with different extent of severity. The most severe problem in Dyke vegetable farming in the study area was lack of technical knowledge for identification of Diseases while Unavailability of fertilizer in season was the least severe problem. The other major problems were lack of technical knowledge for identification of Insects, high percentage of insect attack, fertilizer enhance insect attack, rats attack. From respondent's consideration, most of the respondents belonged to medium problem confrontation. Among 13 selected characteristics of the respondent's only annual ñmily income showed a significant positive relationship and extension contact showed a negative significant relationship with the problem confrontation.
