| dc.description.abstract | Effect of 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (4-CPA), an artificial plant growth regulator, was studied on fruit-set of summer hybrid tomato line, BARI hybrid tomato-4, at the Horticulture Research Center, (HRC), Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Jessore, during April to October 2008. Five concentrations of 4-CPA viz., 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm were tested against BARI hybrid tomato-4. Flowers treated with 20 ppm were found suitable to enhance maximum fruit-set. This concentration was applied to evaluate the performance of the hybrid lines FP5, X MP5, WP7, X C-11, WP, X C-11 and WP8, X C-51 and BARI hybrid tomato-4 as check. Individual fruit weight, fruit per plant, as well as yield of hybrid line WP, X C-11 were found superior as compared to the check while fruit weight and yield were the lowest in hybrid line FP5, X MP5 Early harvest following minimum days to flowering was recorded in BARI-hybrid tomato 4 and FP5, X MP5 All the varieties responded positively when flowers treated with 20 ppm 4-CPA at the anthesis. | |
