Effect of Different Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers on The Growth and Yield of Garlic (Allium sativum L) in Batiaghata of Bangladesh

Abstract
The experiment was carried out at the Professor Pumenndu Gain Field Laboratory, Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna, during the period from November, 2013 to April, 2014 in an attempt to evaluate the effect of different organic and inorganic fertilizers and their combination on growth and yield of garlic (local variety). There were ten treatments consisting of control (without manures and fertilizers), vermicompost, Trichoderma compost, cowdung, farmyard manure, recommended fertilizer dose of NPK (N 99.82, P 53.40, K 166.50 kg ha⁻¹), CD 5 t ha⁻¹, 50% Trichoderma + 50% recommended fertilizer, 50% vermicompost + 50% recommended fertilizer, 50% cowdung + 50% recommended fertilizer, and 50% farmyard manure + 50% recommended fertilizer. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The results of the experiment demonstrated that organic and inorganic fertilizers had significant influences on almost all the parameters. The longest plant (65.58 cm) and highest number of leaves (8.33) were obtained from the treatment of 50% farmyard manure + 50% recommended fertilizer. The shortest plant (43.64 cm) and lowest number of leaves (6.7) were found in the treatment of control. The plants receiving 50% farmyard manure + 50% recommended fertilizer dose produced the highest yield (9.38 t ha⁻¹), while the lowest was found in the treatment of control (2.83 t ha⁻¹), and the highest benefit-cost ratio of garlic (6.01) was obtained when applied 50% farmyard manure + 50% recommended fertilizer doses.
