Abstract

An experiment was conducted to find out the effect of growth regulator (4-CPA) on growth and yield performance of summer tomato at the Germplasm Centre, Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University, Khulna during the period from May 2016 to September 2016. The single factor experiment comprised of different number of hormone applications viz., T₀ (Control), T₁ (one time on 21 DAT), T₂ (two times on 21 and 28 DAT), T₃ (three times on 21, 28 and 35 DAT), T₄ (four times on 21, 28, 35 and 42 DAT) and T₅ (five times on 21, 28, 35, 42 and 49 DAT). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. After 60 DAT, maximum plant height (110.00 cm) was recorded from the treatment T₅ and the minimum plant height (77.02 cm) was found from the treatment T₀. Maximum number of flowers per plant on 45 DAT (14.00) was recorded from the treatment T₄ and the minimum (6.67) was found from the treatment T₀. Maximum number of fruits per plant on 60 DAT (10.00) was found from the treatment T₁ and the minimum (6.00) was recorded from the treatment T₀. The maximum yield (15.58 t/ha) and benefit-cost ratio (4.22) were found in the treatment T₃, whereas the minimum yield (9.32 t/ha) and benefit-cost ratio (2.61) were recorded from the treatment T₀. The treatment T₃ could be recommended for summer tomato cultivation.
