Gardeners’ Exposure to Virtual Agricultural Channels Broadcasted Through YouTube in Relation to Rooftop Gardening

Abstract

Access to information is the key to improvement of agricultural production. The gardeners’ can easily expose to information broadcasted through YouTube. The main purpose of the study was to determine the gardeners exposure to virtual agricultural channels broadcasted through YouTube in relation to rooftop gardening. Besides, the relationships between the selected characteristics of the gardeners and their exposure were also explored. Data were collected from purposively selected 80 gardeners of Sonadanga and Nirala residential areas of the Khulna city during January to February 2023. The overwhelming majority (77.4%) of the respondents had medium exposure whereas 13.8 and 8.8 percent of them showed the highest and lowest exposure respectively to the virtual agricultural channels broadcasted through YouTube. The rooftop gardeners were highly exposed to Shekh Seraj (96.25%) and Dipto Krishi (89.58) while they were less exposed to Green Agriculture BD (12.04%) and BD krishi view (16.67%). Sheikh Seraj was highly effective followed by Deepto Krishi. But BD Krishi view and Green agriculture BD are less effective from gardeners’ perception point of view. The rooftop gardeners highly prefer content related to pest and diseases identification and treatments (93.5%) followed by irrigation and water management (92.75%), roof management (92.75%) and management of ornamental plants (85%,). Among 13 selected characteristics of the respondents, only cosmopolitanism of the respondents showed a significant and positive relationship with their exposure to virtual agricultural channels broadcasted through YouTube.
