Present Status and Future Potential Fish Production of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, Jhenaidah

Abstract

An investigation on the present status and future fish production plan of Jhenaidaha Sadar Upazila, Jhenaidaha was carried out from July 2001 to June 2002. Jhenaidaha Sadar Upazila is endowed with a large variety of water bodies that can produce a considerable amount of fishes. The present investigation was undertaken to know about the present condition, area and production of different types of water body, aquaculture technology applied by the local fish farmer was also taken under consideration in relation to fish production. The total fish production of all the water bodies of Jhenaidaha Sadar Upazila during the investigation period was 1276.05 MT. Analyzing the present status of fish production, a five year fish production plan has been prepared. After five year the fish production plan estimated was 3251.988 MT. For proper utilization of the available fisheries resources of the Upazila to attain the fish production plan, some recommendations have also been provided.
